SCARLETT MUSIC AIBF PERFORMANCES

Dear music parents and students,

What follows is a list of our Alberta International Band Festival performances with information and instructions. Please ensure that your music uniforms are complete, in good shape, and clean. As always, Black socks and shoes are required. All performances are open to the public. Teachers will be notified of these trips. Students are reminded to see their teachers about the lessons missed during the excursions. 

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

We are in need of a few parent volunteers for these trips. If you are available, willing, and have a police check on file, please consider joining us for any of these performances. The dates and times can be found on page 2 of this handout. The number of volunteers needed is as follows:

Feb 18 – 4 parent volunteers for Grade 10 band. 8:15 am to 11:30 am

Feb 18 – 1 parent volunteer for Jazz 2, Orange Combo, Red Combo. 12:00 pm – 6:30 pm

Feb 19 – 1 parent volunteer for Jazz 1 and Blue Combo. 2:15 pm – 6:30 pm

Feb 20 – 6 parent volunteers for Symphonic Band. 12:45 pm – 4:00 pm

Feb 21 – 3 parent volunteers for Wind Ensemble 10:00 am – 12:00 pm (No bus, meet at U of C)

PERCUSSION – CONCERT BANDS

The festival provides the following equipment:

  • Bass drum, snare drum stand, 4 timpani, bells, xylophone, marimba, vibes, piano, chimes, concert toms, gong stand.

You must therefore pack any of the following that apply to your performance:   

  • Keyboard mallets, timpani mallets, bass drum beater, chime hammers, gong mallet, crash cymbals, suspended cymbals, snare drum, gong, triangle and beater, high hat, tambourine, bongos, garbage cans, bowls with stands, hammer and anvil, other toys and small percussion not listed.

RHYTHM SECTIONS – JAZZ BANDS

The festival provides the following equipment:

  • Full Drum Set (snare, 1 tom, floor tom, bass drum, high hat, ride and crash cymbals), piano and keyboard with amp, bass amp, guitar amp, PA speakers and microphones, congas, vibes.

You must therefore pack any of the following that apply to your performance:  

  • Patch cords, other cymbals you may want to use, sticks, bass tuner, vibe mallets

PERFORMANCE SCHEDULE

Wednesday February 18 – Grade 10 Concert Band, Jazz 2, Orange Combo, Red Combo

8:00 AM                 – Arrive at Scarlett in concert band uniform (bring other clothes in garment bag). Check in

  • Percussion: pack equipment

8:15 AM                 – Load and depart

9:00 AM                 – Gr. 10 BandHead to storage room. Assemble equipment

9:30 AM                 – Gr. 10 BandWarm up

10:00 AM              – Gr. 10 Band Performance at the Rozsa Centre, U of C

10:30 AM              – Clinic

11:00 AM              – Load buses and depart

11:30 AM              – Return to Scarlett. Jazz 2 and combos: Change into Jazz Uniforms, eat lunch

12:00 PM               – Jazz 2 and combos: Load buses

12:15 PM               – Depart

12:45 PM               – Arrive at U of C

1:00 PM                 – Orange and Red Combo warm up

1:30 PM                 – Orange and Red Combo performances at the U of C theatre.

3:00 PM                 – Clinic

3:30 PM                 – Jazz 2 Warmup

4:00 PM                 – Jazz 2 performance at the U of C theatre.

5:30 PM                 – Clinic

6:00 PM                 – Load Buses and Depart

6:30 PM                 – Arrive back at Scarlett

Thursday February 19 – Jazz 1 and Blue Combo

2:00 PM                 – Check-in, in uniform

  • Rhythm section: packs equipment

2:15 PM                 – Load and depart. Pick up Robert Warren Jazz Band on the way

3:00 PM                 – Arrive. Head to storage room. Assemble equipment

3:30 PM                 – Warm up

4:00 PM                 – Jazz 1, Blue Combo, and Robert Warren performances at the U of C theatre

5:30 PM                 – Clinics

6:00 PM                 – Load Buses and Depart

6:30 PM                 – Arrive back at Scarlett

Friday February 20 – Symphonic Band

12:30 PM               – Check-in, in uniform. Percussion pack equipment

12:45 PM               – Load and depart

1:30 PM                 – Arrive. Head to storage room. Assemble equipment

2:00 PM                 – Symphonic Band Warm up

2:30 PM                 – Symphonic Band Performance at the Rozsa Centre, U of C

3:00 PM                 – Symphonic Band Clinic

3:30 PM                 – Load Buses and Depart

4:00 PM                 – Arrive back at Scarlett     

Saturday February 21 – Wind Ensemble

10:00 AM              – Meet at the Rozsa Centre (No buses). Check -in, in uniform. Head to storage room. Assemble equipment

10:30 AM              – Wind Ensemble Warm up

11:00 AM              – Wind Ensemble Performance at the Rozsa Centre, U of C

11:30 AM              – Wind Ensemble Clinic

12:00 PM               – Dismissed from U of C
